why adding wedding Video might be the Best decision you make

You Already Know Photos Matter…But What About Video?

Wedding days go by fast — everyone tells you that. My couples even tell me that during their wedding! Like it feels like a blur, or they blacked-out during their vows they were so excited.

Photos freeze the moment, but video? Captures the movement, the sound, the live emotion of that moment. The vows you can’t remember cause you were so excited? Recorded. Your little flower girl squealing at her dress? Recorded. Your dad tearing up during his speech? Recorded.

Couples don’t think they need video of their wedding until they realize what it actually captures. Video is more than “moving photos” – it’s your wedding day memories you get to press “play” on whenever you want to relive your wedding day.

If you’re considering whether adding video is worth it, here are a few things to think about before your wedding day.

Video Lets You Hear the Day Again

Be honest – do you remember what your partner said when they proposed? Probably not! You were so excited, adrenaline pumping, just waiting for them to stop speaking so you could say yes and get that ring on your finger! That’s what your wedding ceremony is going to feel like. Maybe speeches. Kind of your whole day it goes by so fast and excitingly!

Whether we just add on ceremony + speeches videos, or do the full wedding film collection, you’ll get to re-live all the incredible moments and stories shared and tear shed and well wishes over and over.

Photo + Video Together Tell a Fuller Story

They work together to tell the complete story of your wedding day.

Photos freeze moments in time: the way your partner looked at your during your first look, the hands helping you with your dress zipper and jewelry, the formal photos of your family and friends, the tiny details you spent months planning that make your wedding so unique. The images you frame on your walls, flip through in albums, and revisit for years to come.

But video adds another layer. It captures movement, sound, atmosphere, and emotion in a way that lets you feel the day all over again. The shaky breath before vows. The wind rustling in the trees during your ceremony. Your friends screaming the lyrics on the dance floor. The energy shifts from the calm preparation of the morning, to the lively celebration during the reception. It’s the video you share with the family who couldn’t make it, and the video you watch every anniversary to re-live one of the best days of your life.

Why Book Photo + Video Through One Vendor

No need to take an entire paragraph to explain these, so here’s a cutie bullet point list:

  • Your photo + video will be shot and edited in the same style. Your photo and video will compliment each other instead of look like they were two different wedding days.
  • Communicating with 1 main vendor is way easier than trying to remember who you shared what with.
  • You know the team already works well together, so they’ll blend in seamlessly with your wedding day.
  • The overall experience from booking to wedding prep to the day of your wedding is more relaxed, organized, and honestly, just easier.

Your Wedding Film Won’t Be A Hollywood Production

No crazy rigs or lighting set-ups, no “must-have” shot-list, just capturing your day candidly, just like I do with photography. In fact, a lot of times I’m switching back and forth between video and photo seamlessly on your wedding day. Your wedding film will feel more like an elevated home movie, with a little more cinematic magic from the layering of music, vows, and candid audio. If you could pluck the memories right out of your head and project them on a wall…that’s what your wedding film will look like.

FAQ about Adding Video to your Wedding Day

Do I need to add on video before officially booking or can we add it on later?

-We can add on video coverage up to 1-month before your wedding, so you can totally take your time on deciding if it’s something you want as a part of your wedding day keepsakes. I’ll just update your invoice with the add-on and it will automatically adjust your payments so you’re still getting everything paid by that final due date of 4 weeks out from your wedding!

Is adding video worth it for smaller weddings/elopements?

-Absolutely, if not even MORE worth it! I’ve had couples elope out here in Colorado, then show their video back home at their reception for everyone to watch. It’s the perfect way for everyone to feel involved, but you two still get your romantic, intimate elopement in the mountains. Just let me know if that’s something you’re planning so I can get your video edited in time for your home reception/party!

This is exactly what Tayler and Shane did for their fall elopement – you can watch their video below!

Will having video make the day feel less candid?

-Not the way I approach wedding video. My video style is the same style as my photo – hence why I love offering packages with both! I don’t bring extra lights, I won’t make you do anything different than I would for photos. The only thing that’s different is you and your spouse may be mic’d so I can capture gorgeous quality audio of your vows to use for the final film.

When do couples watch their wedding videos?

-If you’re anything like my past couples, 10 times the day it’s delivered to your email, then probably once or twice a week for a month after, and whenever your bored in your office at work. Seriously, this was one of the texts my most recent bride sent me regarding just the sneak peek of her wedding film!

What’s the difference between a wedding content creator and a videographer?

-This is a fantastic question! A wedding content creator usually sends you an album of snippets of video and some photos shot on an iPhone within 24 hours of your wedding. Some of them offer packages that will give you a few edited videos so you can easily post an Instagram reel or TikTok without having to make the video yourself. They’re straight out of the phone camera, and look nicer than mom’s shakey hand holding a phone, but don’t do much as far as creating a meaningful film like a videographer.

A videographer takes a more creative approach to retelling your wedding story through cinematic visuals, layering music and audio from your actual vows, ceremony, and other pieces of your wedding day. It’s the most beautiful way to re-live the memories of your wedding day.

Do photo and video teams get in each other’s way?

-If you book photo and video through separate vendors and their styles/approach to your wedding day differ, then yes. They can. If you book photography, ask them if they know of any videographers they just love working with so you can reach out to someone you know will work well with the vendors you’ve already hired! If you don’t want to deal with that at all, book someone who offers photo + video together (like me!)

Can we customize coverage?

-Absolutely! When you inquire, I’ll send you my Wedding Pricing + Info Guide that has both my photo and video (and joint) packages in it. If you need more coverage, or something more specific, we’ll build a custom package on our consult call! This would be for any weekend/multi-day coverage, split-hour days (like if you have a morning wedding, then an evening reception with a break in the middle), or destination weddings!
