(Bucket List-Worthy + Photographer Approved)
So you’re about to pop the big question (!!!) and now you’re asking yourself: Where do I do this in a way that feels real, not staged – and also looks amazing in photos? Welcome. You’re in the right place.
I shoot love stories all across Colorado, and I gotta say – Northern Colorado? Sleeper hit. It’s full of unique, wild, and just-plain-cool places to propose that don’t feel overdone or touristy. You’ll find quiet trails, big views, charming towns, and those in-between moments that just feel right.
Here are 10 dreamy-but-down-to-earth places in NoCo that are perfect for a real and candid proposal experience:

1. Kenosha Pass (between Jefferson and Grant, CO)
The golden aspen forest in the photos above? Yup, that’s Kenosha Pass at the end of September. Absolutely magical in the fall (for obvious reasons), but aim to go during a weekday to avoid the crazy crowds during peak season. The best part? Any spot looks good. Maybe not in the middle of the parking lot, but as soon as you pull up to the trailhead, you’ll see what I mean!

2. Lost Gulch Overlook (Boulder, CO)
This one is stupid popular… and honestly, it deserves the hype. The sweeping mountain views, dramatic rocky cliffs, and unreal sunsets make it one of the most iconic proposal spots near Boulder. It’s bold, it’s cinematic, and it feels like you’re on top of the world. Expect a crowd—but with the right timing and a little planning, it can still feel incredibly personal.

3. Lily Lake RMNP (Estes Park, CO)
If you want mountain views without the hike, Lily Lake is such a gem. The still water reflects the surrounding peaks, and the flat walking path makes it easy, accessible, and relaxed. It’s especially dreamy at sunrise or early evening when the light softens and the crowds thin out—perfect for a quiet, intimate moment.
4. Callahan House Gardens (Downtown Longmont)
For something a little more refined and romantic, the Callahan House is such a hidden gem. With its historic charm, manicured gardens, and cozy elegance, it feels like stepping into a private estate. This is perfect if you’re envisioning something intentional and styled—maybe even with florals or a setup waiting after the “yes.” It’s public access, but you will rarely find other people meandering through it. It’s super close to downtown Longmont so you can have a dinner and drink nearby to celebrate afterwards! (Or ask your friends and family to meet you for a surprise party afterwards!) “The Roost” is a top pick from me – I’ve lived in Longmont for 25+ years so trust me on this one!
5. Devil’s Backbone (Loveland, CO)
If you love a little adventure, Devil’s Backbone brings the drama—in the best way. The striking rock formations and wide-open views make it feel wild and untamed, while still being relatively accessible. It’s especially stunning at sunset when the light hits the ridgeline just right. It’s a little desert-y with red dirt trails, so if anyone is planning on wearing white…just be warned!

6. Denver Botanic Gardens (Denver, CO)
This is for the romantics. The Denver Botanic Gardens offer lush greenery, seasonal blooms, and endless tucked-away corners that feel straight out of a fairytale. Whether it’s spring florals or golden fall tones, you can find a quiet little pocket that feels like it was made just for your moment.

7. Pass Lake (Keystone, CO)
Pass Lake is one of those spots that feels peaceful and a little off the radar. Surrounded by mountains and alpine flora, it’s simple, serene, and incredibly romantic. If you’re wanting something quiet and nature-forward without big crowds, this is such a beautiful option. It is around 10,000 ft. in elevation, just to be warned! If you’re not from Colorado, acclimate in Denver first, and be sure to drink lots of water and take your time getting up to the summit/lake!

8. Crested Butte, CO
Crested Butte is basically a proposal dreamland. I have so many location ideas here depending on your vision, but if you need a starting point—Emerald Lake is stunning for a more adventurous “high clearance vehicles only” road to an alpine lake. Umbrella Bar is easily accessible (is open to the public), but has one of the best mountain-top views in all of Crested Butte. Add in wildflowers (if you time it right), and it’s hard to go wrong anywhere in this area.
9. Pretty much anywhere in the mountains
Honestly? You don’t need a famous location. Some of the most meaningful proposals happen on a quiet pull-off, a random trail, or a view you stumbled on together. Colorado does the heavy lifting—so if it feels like you two, it’s already perfect. And if you need some other location recommendations, ask your native Colorado photographer (me) for additional spots!

10. Your First Date, Your Home, Your Special Spot
The “best” proposal spot isn’t always the most epic; it’s the one that means something to you two. Where you had your first date, your favorite weekend hangout, or even your living room with candles and music playing… those places carry your story. And that kind of intention? Your person will feel like a true main-character in their movie.
